Anton Nowels

Biography

 Anton Nowels is an accomplished artist whose work has been juried into both the Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the American Impressionist Society (AIS) national exhibitions. He also showed work in the 2019 and 2020 OPA Western Regional Exhibitions. He was most recently juried into the 2020 OPA Salon Show and the first AIS Online Juried Exhibition. Nowels won Best in Show at the 2019 Arizona Plein Air Painters Juried Members Show judged by Mitch Baird. In 2018 he won Second Place at the Scottsdale Artists' School's Best and Brightest Show. Additionally, Nowels won First Place at the 2017 Bisbee Plein Air Festival.

 

Nowels has been practicing art since 2000. His first solo show was at age 24 on Grand Avenue in Downtown Phoenix. In 2007, he was juried into a solo exhibition at Burton Barr Public Library's Central Gallery. Nowels continued to show work in downtown Phoenix before returning to Arizona State University to finish his BA in 2008. His work is experimental by nature and is reflective of his Interdisciplinary Art and Performance degree.

 

Nowels is a local workshop instructor at the prestigious Scottsdale Artists' School. His workshop and artwork explore Impressionistic approaches taught by Charles Hawthorne, Henry Hensche, and Sergei Bongart. In addition, he enjoys painting a variety of subjects and experimenting with painting techniques. Nowels is represented by the Thunderbird Foundation in Mt. Carmel, Utah. He is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and an Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America, as well as being a Juried Member of Arizona Plein Air Painters.
