Painting the Landscape: From Sketch to Finish: John MacDonald I Workshop I Oil

This studio workshop will focus on two aspects of painting: the painting process and the five basic components which comprise every painting. The process will begin with choosing reference (sketches or photos from local scenes or photographs brought to the workshop), creating tonal studies and a block-in, and then developing a finished painting. The focus will be on the basics of the visual language: composition, value structure, color and edge contrasts, and details. Although the instruction will be given in oils, the emphasis will not be on techniques specific to oil painting. Painters in other media will also benefit from this workshop. www.jmacdonald.com
