The Foundation of Portrait Sculpture: Alex Manzanares I Local I Water-Based-Clay

Sculptor Alex Manzanares offers instruction in classical portrait sculpture, drawing from his extensive studies in Florence and Rome. Over the course of four days, students will create a three-quarter life-size portrait in water-based clay while working directly from a live model. Through a focus on proportion, anatomy, and observation, students will learn how to measure in three dimensions and translate these relationships into a sculptural likeness. Manzanares will guide participants through every stage of the process—from blocking in and modeling the form, to refining features and applying expressive textures.
