Artists have been using light to create drama in their work for centuries. Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Wyeth, and countless others have elevated light from an afterthought to a protagonist in their work. Dramatic light creates compositions with immediate emotional impact that grab your viewer's attention from across the room. Using both historical and contemporary examples, master pastelist Corey Pitkin will demonstrate how he uses light to create work that is both emotional and mysterious. This 3-day workshop will include lectures on historical examples and how light affects color, a live photo shoot with a model, pastel demonstration, and group critique of assignments. Students will be provided a photograph to work from but are encouraged to bring their own reference images.
