Jason Scull
Jason Scull grew up in a family that farmed and ranched on the fringes of the South Texas brush country. His people were early settlers in Texas who arrived in the mid 1820’s that ranched, raised families, fought wars and carved a place in the American West. In his nearly forty years of making art, it is from his early experiences and heritage that his sculpture has been shaped, directed, and inspired.
Scull's life with cattle and horses coupled with his respect for the culture of the American West formed his early interest in Western Art and the direction his work would ultimately take. He majored in Animal Science at Texas A&M and later returned to the family ranch where he remained involved in the operation until 2010. His early study of sculpture began in 1987 through the Cowboy Artists of America Museum workshop program. Additionally, his art education came in the form of personal study with established artists, most notably Jack Swanson, Mehl Lawson, and Cynthia Rigden. Scull was a member of the Cowboy Artists of America from 2011-2022.
An award winning artist, Scull most recently received the Directors Award for Sculpture at the Museum of Western Art 42nd Roundup, Kerrville, Texas and the Jim Bowie Award for Sculpture at the Briscoe Museum 2023 Night of Artists in San Antonio, Texas. A South Texas Aesthetic, a two man show with landscape painter Noe Perez was held at the Museum of Western Art, Kerrville, Texas from November 2024- January 2025. Over the years he and his work have been featured in Art of the West, Southwest Art, Western Horseman, and Western Art Collector. Jason and his wife Dianne make their home in the Texas Hill Country near Kerrville, Texas.
