Scottsdale Artists' School announces the Best and Brightest of 2010

THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST CONTINUE TO SHINE
The Best and Brightest winners are announced with Artist’s Reception

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (February 17, 2010) – Scottsdale Artists’ School will be honoring the Best and Brightest student artwork at the juried art show and sale Thursday, February 18, from 6-8 PM. The show and parking behind the school is free but a call to rsvp is required, (480) 990-1422. The “Best and the Brightest” juried show includes over 100 works of art in different mediums including oil painting, pastels, drawing, sculpture and watercolor painting.

The “Best of Show” award went to Michael Goodwin with his watercolor, D.C. Farm, which was also awarded the 1st place award in the water media category. First place in the oil category went to Rachel Nyssen for her painting, Jessie’s Vase. Second place went to Ying Liu with Fiesta Kids Parade. In the Pastel/Drawing category, Tracy Rollins won first place with Dog Day Afternoon and Carolyn Mitchell won second place with Gettysburg Leaf. Within the sculpture category, Vincent Russo took the blue ribbon for first place with Girlfriends, which also received the Scottsdale Artists' School Purchase Award. Susan Firestone took second place in the sculpture category for Arabian Show Dance. For second place in the water media, Colleen Dixon took the ribbon for Hoop Dancer. Honorable mention went to the following artists; Hope Cunningham, Penny McElhaney, Erin Wall Meads, Karen Phipps, Nancy Jo Russ, Cheri Saffro, Janice Smith, Margie Swift, Remelle Tanhueco and Dennis Harrington.

For the first time ever, the Scottsdale Artists' School has partnered with the Celebration of Fine Art show to showcase various artwork from the student show. For more information about Celebration of Fine, contact the school.

The show will remain hanging and the artwork is available for purchase through March 18. The school is open weekdays, 8:30 AM through 5:00 PM and Saturdays 9:00 AM through 4:00 PM.
