Description: Painting the Grand Canyon in plein air is a grand experience, yet very challenging. This workshop requires hard work and dedication from each student. The course is designed to give the student complete focus on the canyon while learning what to select from the canyon�s expansive view. Helping students arrange pleasing compositions while creating the feel, mood and essence of the Canyon is the main goal. Careful consideration has been taken to select prime painting location suitable for this class. The daily schedule will be split into early morning and late afternoon painting sessions, with break time in-between. This will allow the students� working hours to be during the richest and most dramatic times of day, while giving them some free time to explore the canyon. Demonstrations will also be used in the teaching process, as well as individual critiques and some lecture time. Some outdoor painting experience is required to take this class. There will be an orientation for students on Sunday, September 16th at 5pm to kick off the workshop. Concentration will be on the intellectual process of interpreting landscape to fit your motive. Description: It�s NEVER too early or too late to learn more about color! In this class, students will ex-plore color theory and color mixing. Students will learn about individual pigments, their place on the pallet, and paint transparency and opacity. The workshop will emphasize identifying the value, intensity, and temperature of color. Other topics addressed will include color perspective, concepts for creating the illusion of space, mixing techniques, the illusion of transparency, and mediums, including glazes, that create color effects. Description: In this class, everyone will set up a still life. I will assist and give advice as needed. Expect to hear me say,"Keep it simple". A few or even sometimes one object painted beautifully is more compelling than a bunch of stuff crammed together. Expect to do studies. Learn to get a lot of problems out of the way so that the finish will be fun. Don't expect to work on a painting for a long time, one day max. Every day we'll start something fresh. Some days you might do more than one or do a few studies. I will spend some time painting each day because it's easier to show than tell. I'll show you how to start loose and finish with some great edge work. Some of the things that will be covered in this class; Setting up and lighting a still life, how and why to use a fan brush (don't forget your fan brush!), how, why and where to use a palette knife (don't forget your palette knife,) how to mix close values, how to start and finish a painting, how and why to squint, how to look for and paint shapes, how to paint white drapery, how to keep your darks clean and transparent and why you want to do that..
